Kids treasure hunt party games are also a great way to encourage interaction, teamwork and a bit of lateral thinking whilst having loads of fun! With a well planned interesting treasure hunt you can even keep a big group of kids entertained for hours.

To plan a children’s treasure hunt you can either use clues, visual or verbal to lead the children to the treasure or you can map out a treasure hunt trail with which the kids must follow the directions to find the treasure! Whichever way you plan your kids treasure hunt, here are a few tips you may want to keep in mind:

  • Decide on the location of the treasure hunt, will you host it outside or indoors?
  • Use the location of the party game; include clues and landmarks from the location.
  • Make the treasure hunt clues, a little challenging. Based on the age of the kids decide on the level of difficulty of the clues so that they’re not too easy – otherwise the kids will likely get bored.
  • If the group of kids is quite large, it might be easier to have them work in teams.
  • Treasure hunt items can be just everyday items, but if you are doing this for a special occasion then try using items and clues that match the party theme, for example for Halloween or a themed birthday party.
  • Similarly, the treasure or prize doesn’t have to be big or expensive. And if the kids are young, you may want to put in a number of small prizes so that they all get a chance to win.
  • Use picture treasure hunt clues for young children.
  • For older kids, test them a bit with more challenging clues that will make them think and apply themselves to the treasure hunt. For example, if you are going make treasure maps, you could also include compass point directions for older kids to follow. Then armed with a compass they can practise their sense of direction, as well as having a bit of fun!

If you are short of time you can also find many printable treasure hunt games online, which are usually both convenient and free or cheap.
